The clients had a large lot on undeveloped land well covered in trees. Their desire was for a rustic house attuned to the site. This was accomplished by building a slab- floor house which could be "dug into" the site. The house is one-level except for the living room which is dropped two risers down from the flanking foyer and dining areas. The main floor level wraps around two walls of the living room serving as a raised hearth, seating, and a useful ledge. A recent addition to the master bedroom, bath, and deck included a water garden which is a complete realization of the clients' plans.
